02 — Why Vernia

The name comes from the
vernier scale

Vernia is a native parametric CAD for mechanical parts, shop drawings, sheet metal and assemblies. A workflow designers already know — with standardised defaults that give a junior the judgement of a senior. The name carries the vernier from a caliper: an auxiliary scale that turns an ordinary reading into an exact one.

  • Sketch → feature → drawing, step by step
  • One format for part, drawing, sheet metal, assembly and BOM

We measure, we do not assume — every geometric claim in the tests is a number, and the document stays yours.

03 — Engine

Built as an engineering
tool, not a web app.

Decisions that define how Vernia behaves under load, during a power loss, and five years from now.

Windows 10 / 11, 64-bit

A native window with no web wrapper; macOS is planned.

Open CASCADE B-Rep

Exact geometry, not a mesh: booleans, fillets and shells.

Ceres solver

The same solver for sketches (2D) and assemblies (6-DoF).

Readable text with semantic features, git-friendly.

04 — Status

Where Vernia is
today, honestly

September 2026: a development alpha used daily on real parts. Not yet a product you can buy. Part, drawing and sheet metal are available; assembly is in progress.

We are looking for a few engineers and workshops to work on real tasks and tell us what is wrong. In return: direct influence on the tool and a free licence at launch.
